3rd Anniversary::Leather and Lace
3rd Anniversary Traditional Gift: Leather. As a material, leather is durable, warm, strong, flexible, and has a sense of resiliency to it. These are qualities that help marriages continue to thrive.
We celebrated our third wedding anniversary this past week. Last Wednesday was the actual date but we had the "party" on Saturday.
It's kind of funny that our friends give us a double take when they hear that we've been married only three years. The math doesn't add up with the children's ages....so much for doing things in the prescribed order.
We had a great free date. Free hotel night stay at a four star hotel just 15 minutes away. How exotic. (Yes, a bit Spitzeresque) But we made a time of it. We brought the kids up with us for a swim in the pool and each of them had a friend to play with. Tia arrived to take the kids home with her overnight before we went to dinner.
The kids got a kick out of jumping on the King size hotel bed when we checked in. The girls snuggled into the pillows exclaiming, "These pillows are so soft and fluffy!" Brother was excited to see a waste basket. Dad had a flash forward of our party animals at twenty years old trashing a hotel room rock-n-roll style...
The swim party was fun and at the end of the afternoon I found myself alone in the hot tub with three handsome guys. So close, yet so far.
We used a gift certificate to a restaurant later in the evening and had a lovely dinner and conversation.
The lace nightie made an appearance. We did have a king size bed all to ourselves after all.
It was nice to reconnect on all sorts of levels and to take the time to talk about how we've changed and how to keep our marriage growing as well.
We are feeling the flexibility in ourselves as individuals and our marriage. Leather is an appropriate symbol. Now I can justify the purchase of those thigh-high boots I've been admiring.
